Following from the success of our Brazil Daterra Sunrise 2014 limited edition coffee, this season we’ve sourced another extraordinary artisan coffee from Brazil: a medium-dark roasted variety of wet-processed Bourbon beans from the Rio Verde and Capoeririnha estates in the Ipanema region of Minas Gerais.
In the words of Frank Sinatra, there might be ‘an awful lot of coffee in Brazil’ (it’s the world’s largest producer), but the task of finding truly excellent beans is harder than you might think. Coffee trees were badly struck by rust in 2014, a blight which affected plantations and smallholdings across the country. We were lucky to find this superbly layered Bourbon, striking the perfect balance between full-bodied intensity and a bright acidity. The cup yields roasted notes of chocolate and hazelnut, amplified by distinctive notes of citrus.
A medium-dark roast brings out the coffee’s natural sweetness and heady aroma, whilst maintaining that characteristic brightness. It’s the ideal brew for those who like their coffee complex but not too heavy.
