April's Coffee of the Month

Origin: Guatemala, Central America
Body: Full-bodied
Roast: Medium-Strong Roast (4)
Summary of taste: Honey and chocolate sweetness
Whittard recommends: Using a filter, cafetière or pour over and enjoying black or with milk according to taste
When to drink: Whenever you need a kick-start

This coffee really is the giant of all coffees! It delivers a huge taste from a huge bean, undeniably strong but without any hint of bitterness. It is a great way to kick-start the day or stave off that mid-afternoon lull.

Gold Winner of the Great Taste Awards in 2011, the judges described our Guatemala Elephant Coffee as a "Heavy roast that actually delivers. Well balanced flavours. No ashiness and some gentle chocolate notes. Big, brave and bold - and it worked."

The coffee gets its name from its enormous beans, grown on Arabica bushes on small plantations on the fertile volcanic slopes of Lake Atitlan. Extremely rare and highly prized, the plantations combine their precious harvests and take them to local cooperatives to be pulped. The massive elephant beans are roasted to a deep shade of mahogany to bring out their rich full-bodied taste.

Guatemalan Elephant Coffee is a decadently rich coffee for any time of day, with a delicious hint of chocolate and oozing honey sweetness.

For the freshest and best tasting coffee, please consume within 4 weeks.

Brew a Perfect Cup

Follow the manufacturer's equipment instructions Always use fresh water. Use water just off the boil so you don't scald the coffee. Do not re-heat brewed coffee.

We have used this product for many years now, and it is always exactly the same. We once tried a cheaper offer of the same bean from another supplier and it was not up to the usual standard from Whittard.
Deliveries are always quick, though once we mistakenly order ground instead of beans, but they were replaced instantly - service above and beyond as our American friends say.
Our only gripe is the discount card is not now available on web orders, though it is still there for orders in the shops'
Still a 10 out of 10 service

I have been buying Guatemalan coffee for years now as it is simply the best around. It is good value for money and as we buy the beans and store them straight in the freezer they last for weeks. No need to defrost before grinding.
