Working for Whittard

Working for Whittard is like being part of a big family. Although we have over 120 stores across the UK we have an informal yet professional way of doing things. Everyone is encouraged to take an active part in all areas of the business, whether that be a Sales Advisor giving their feedback on new product ranges or our Chief Executive out and about serving customers in a store.

Whittard is driven by a passion for our product. Our aim is to introduce as many people as possible to the world of tea and coffee. We strive to do this through ensuring our range is always of the highest quality and also making sure that everyone has the knowledge and understanding they need to bring it to life.

Of course we couldn't do any of this without our other passion - our people. We delight in people who are enthusiastic about what we do and sell, and also about delivering exceptional customer service - whether that be in a store or in our Head Office or Warehouse. Whittard people are team players with a 'have-a-go' attitude enabling them to be flexible and adaptable to change. In return we aim to give them the opportunity to express their individuality and to fulfil their potential. In other words - to be themselves! One example of this is our desire to promote internally whenever possible and to give people chances and opportunities that they may not get elsewhere.

In our ongoing quest to 'help people to be themselves' and to further improve Whittard as a place to work, we have, for the past two years, taken part in the 'Sunday Times 100 Best Companies To Work For' survey. Although we were naturally delighted to feature at number 23 in 2005, for us the process is mainly about continually improving what we do as a Company as well as gaining an insight in to what people love about working for Whittard. Here are a few of the things they had to say:

"the culture within this organization is superb - you are not just a number, and it is truly possible to be yourself and make things happen without others stealing your glory"

"there is a great, friendly family atmosphere in Whittard's shops. Everybody makes an effort to get to know each other well and we work brilliantly as a team. The company is fun and fulfilling and I hope I never leave. My job means a lot to me and has taught me a lot of valuable lessons"

"having worked for small and large companies before joining Whittard, I have found you are not just a number on the payroll, you are treated as a friend"

"everyone is treated equally. To get things done doesn't mean you can't have fun. I have enjoyed working here so much more than anywhere else I have previously worked".

"having left Whittard a couple of times, thinking the grass is greener on the other side, I can honestly say it isn't"

There are of course other benefits to working at Whittard and these include a generous staff discount & product allowance, tax efficient salary schemes for computers, bikes and childcare vouchers as well as our voluntary benefits scheme which provides substantial savings on a variety of goods and services. There are also enhanced benefits for length of service, ranging from extra holiday to increased Maternity and Paternity provisions.
