Origin: China Leaf Type: Green Tea Taste: Sweet and slightly smoky Drink: Without Milk Brew: Lightly, 2-3 minutes according to taste with water off the boil When to drink: Afternoon
This tea takes its name from the particular treatment of the leaves. Rolled into tight pearls, they were mistaken for gunpowder by 16th century traders. Our blend's grey-green leaves unfurl peacefully to produce a golden tea revealing a smooth, sweet, slightly smoky flavour. A perfect tea for a quiet, contemplative pause.
Ideally warm the pot first with a splash of hot water. Use one teaspoon (around 2g) per cup and use freshly drawn water which is heated to around 80 degrees. You can either pour the water before it reaches boiling point or allow the water to sit for a few minutes afterwards. Allow to brew for 2-3 minutes according to taste. Should be drunk without milk.
A delicious green tea. Having recently visited China and seen how green tea is served, I now "wake up" the leaves with a splash of hot water into the cup then throw that water away. I continue to infuse the same leaves throughout the day, just brewing to a light straw colour each time. Economical and convenient - and even more delicious!
Best green tea

I was buying this tea in shops but found it increasingly more difficult do find. In the meantime, I was trying different brands and varieties but nothing comes close to the mild, sweet taste of Whittard's Gunpowder - I now understand why people don't like green tea, all others are bitter and unpleaseant but not this one. I often find myself craving to drink this tea, it's that good. Highly recommended!

Only place you can get really good loose green tea. Other brands are bitter and the tea leaves themselves are like dust. Please don't stop producing this.

Deliciously subtle fragrance to this tea and is a completely superior product to tea in a tea-bag.
