Brew a Perfect Cup
Ideally warm the pot first with a splash of hot water. Use one teaspoon (around 2g) per cup and use freshly drawn water which is heated to around 80 degrees. You can either pour the water before it reaches boiling point or allow the water to sit for a few minutes afterwards. Allow to brew for 2-3 minutes according to taste. Should be drunk without milk.
I love the milk oolong tea I have at home and thought to try this one from Whittards (as they're the only tea shop in the wharf). It smells the same but not nearly as good as the tea I've got at home. It doesn't have that smooth, creamy taste. And it's flavored. The one I've got is pure oolong.
This tea continues to be pleasant, but when faced with other milk oolongs in the market, the vanilla flavour is rather lacking. Formosa Jade Oolong is a much fresher and similarly sweet oolong without flavouring and with a better quality leaf.
Thornbury lady, I would recommend milk oolongs that are marked as "pure oolong", "unflavoured", or "100% oolong" on the packets, rather than boasting a flavouring process or labelling it as green tea instead - often chinese and taiwanese tea shops provide the real thing.
Quite liked the unusual taste at first but after five minutes my tongue had a strange metallic after taste - so I'll give this the thumbs down and go back to my Formosa Oolong
It's a nice tea, refreshing and light, yet there are better teas out there. I agree with the reviewer below; incidentally Fran F, which milky ooolong would you recommend?
Absolutely love this yummy tea! I had not liked green teas before, and this one is a revelation. Smooth, creamy and comforting, this tea requires no milk and is best lightly brewed. If only there were more in the packet, I have used up the lot in a week, so must order more!
