Hi
I first read about Pu-Erh tea in 2008 in a local magazine.

It was said to be good for slimming with "Posh Spice" named as one of the people who confirm its effect. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be that kind of frame; the smallest I've been is a UK 12. The article also warned that it did not smell nice.

Anyway, I bought about 6 packs of the 20 large bag packs (reddish box), took orange or lemon juice to work in a small vanilla bottle and added to the tea freshly made at work. I tried to devote to it but could not as tea without sugar or honey wasn’t really for me.

About 3 packets remained for more than 2 years by which time they had passed their best before date.

Earlier this year 2012, I thought why not break the convention and add honey and ginger. Having done that, I was able to drink it a few times per week and it became my regular drink. I have since bought at least 6 packets and should be buying more soon.

I would want to believe that it probably helps towards weight loss especially if you lead an active life and eat fairly healthily. I feel like I am loosing weight and believe that with a little bit of mild exercises in addition to my usual walking as I am not currently a driver, I should be more toned and be certain about the results.

I usually make the tea using 3 teabags in a pan of about 1.5 litres of water as I don‘t want to waste my tea. This usually lasts about 2 to 3 days. I leave them to draw for about 15 minutes and then add about half teaspoonful of dry ginger powder (don’t use too much, the tea will be bitter) You can also use fresh ginger which can be blended and frozen or if you have time in your hands crushed or blended when required. The ginger powder forms sediment so the last bit of tea has to be strained off.

I store the tea in a big 1 litre bottle in the fridge and fill another small one with the rest which I tend to start drinking immediately. I sometimes drink it warm or at room temperature when I don’t feel like having a cold drink.

As the cold season is approaching, I bring the tea out of the fridge and leave it for a while to approach room temperature. If you prefer it hotter, I don’t see any harm in heating it up.

Ashley and John Ayres-Smith, try it with honey and ginger, its much better.

I am a Chinese and I must say Whittard's Ph-Erh tastes almost as the same as the real traditional Ph-erh I used to have. I have been drinking Ph-erh since I was a little child and I can confirm there is nothing wrong it ;)

Very unusual tea, so probably a minority taste. My personal favourite - needs to brew for several minutes, make reasonably strong, and no milk.
