Distinctive and delicate, with a light muscatel sweetness, this First Flush Darjeeling tea is grown in the Mirik Valley at the foothills of the Himalayas, surrounded by crashing waterfalls, tall pine trees and dramatic hills. First Flush refers to the very first leaves of the year picked at the beginning of spring, and this was one of the finest teas to be produced in 2014.
The family-run Okayti Estate was established in 1888, and you’ll find that little has changed in the traditional techniques since then – each leaf is picked and sorted gently by hand.
You may not have guessed, but the name ‘Okayti’ could hardly be more British. Adopted by the estate after the words “okay tea” (or “yes please tea!”) became the phrase of choice to describe this much-favoured brew at the London tea auctions.
