1886 was an era of innovation in London when Mr. Whittard opened his original shop. The first electric lights glowed in windows; the Underground was still being built and ran on steam. Inspired by the changes around him, Mr. Whittard invented this strong but smooth tea. He blended Assam, a new malty tea from India, with aromatic Keemun to produce a taste of the times.

Ingredients

100% Black Tea.

Brew a Perfect Cup

Ideally warm the pot first with a splash of hot water. Use one teabag per cup and always use freshly drawn and boiled water. Allow to brew for 3-5 minutes according to taste. Can be drunk with or without milk.

Lovely cup of tea, bought as an occasional treat, already having to reorder only after a week, even with the Assam and my ordinary tea buy from the supermarket!

I was expecting a really strong tea from the description and was somewhat disappointed by the result. However, it has quite a nice taste and is pleasant to drink in the early morning.

It is really a great tea, resembling English Breakfast in some way but milder. It is indeed lovely, but I personally prefer English Breakfast blend.

I wish my very British mother were still alive to taste this lovely tea. Good, strong, malty tea.
