Bancha Hojicha Tea is a smooth-flavoured green tea that has been roasted to give it a unique nutty taste.
It is a Japanese green tea made from the lower shoots of the tea plant. Its reddish-brown leaves make it hard to believe it is a green tea, but it gets its colour through slow roasting in a porcelain pot over charcoal. This also gives the tea its unique woody aroma with roasted and nutty overtones.
Bancha Hojicha Tea has an incredibly smooth flavour and very low levels of tannin. In Japan it is believed that the slow roasting also reduces the caffeine content of the leaf, making it popular after evening meals or to give to children and the elderly.

Brew a Perfect Cup
Ideally warm the pot first with a splash of hot water. Use one teaspoon (around 2g) per cup and use freshly drawn water which is heated to around 80 degrees. You can either pour the water before it reaches boiling point or allow the water to sit for a few minutes afterwards. Allow to brew for 2-3 minutes according to taste. Should be drunk without milk.
