Ceylon Pettiagalla is a classic tea from Sri Lanka, with a gloriously floral aroma that is reminiscent of the beautiful tea gardens it hails from.
Ceylon was the originally the colonial name of Sri Lanka and although the island changed its name in 1972, the teas kept their historic name. The taste of the tea from this area is largely defined by the altitude at which it is grown. This particular variety is grown up high on the Pettiagalla estate. The famous garden lies amongst pristine forest reserves in the shade of a small mountain. Its high altitude gives the tea its distinctive floral flavour.
Pettiagalla is one of Sri Lanka's oldest tea plantations and the tea production here is respectful of age-old tradition, with antique rollers still used to make the tea. The elegant wiry black leaves make a red gold tea that is perfect for drinking in the afternoon.
