1886 was an era of innovation in London when Mr. Whittard opened his original shop. The first electric lights glowed in windows; the Underground was still being built and ran on steam. Inspired by the changes around him, Mr. Whittard invented this strong but smooth tea. He blended Assam, a new malty tea from India, with aromatic Keemun to produce a taste of the times.

Ingredients

100% Black Tea.

Brew a Perfect Cup

Ideally warm the pot first with a splash of hot water. Use one teaspoon (around 2g) per cup and always use freshly drawn and boiled water. Allow to brew for 3-5 minutes according to taste. Can be drunk with or without milk.

Great tea! One of my favorites. It's strong yet smooth. I don't have tea until late in the morning or early afternoon. This is a perfect choice. I fill the teaball just under half and let it brew for 2 - 3 minutes. It comes out a rich amber that starts with a flavor that doesn't overwhelm and completes with a pleasant aftertaste. When I think of English tea, this is what comes to mind. Recommended highly!

This is my favorite tea. I just wish Whittard hadn't shut down its USA website, as the shipping charged by the UK site are pretty dear. However, I am not willing to forego my evening cup of 1886 blend!

My favourite Whittards tea. Lovely colour, deep flavour without any bitterness, satisfaction in every cup.

This is a good one. Like a breakfast tea, but with an edge that's noticeably different and in a worthwhile way. Like the difference between a £5 white table wine and a £10 one: same stuff but just better tasting! Recommended.

So far every cup has made me go "Ahhhhh' after the first sip. That to me is the sign of a good tea. Love it!!
