April's Tea of the Month: Jasmine Dragon Pearls

Each month put our teas to the taste test, in order to find one special brew to highlight in stores and online. This month, our tastebuds were drawn to the delicate Jasmine Dragon Pearls

We can see why this blend is one of our most popular teas, the hand-rolled pearls of green tea are crafted for matchless clarity of taste. The youngest silver tips and buds of the tea leaf are layered with whole jasmine blossoms, picked at dusk when the scent of the blooms is most intense. The oils are left to absorb overnight, once the flavours have transferred, the leaves are hand-rolled into perfectly, delicate pearls.

This tea is a speciality of Fujian Province in China, and the intricate process results in a gloriously aromatic tea which can be infused multiple times. Our choice to feature this brew as our Tea of the Month is reinforced by the 2012 Great Taste Award, who selected our Jasmine Dragon Pearls as the Gold Award winner. The judges admired its “good liquor, good colour and good jasmine.” 

How to brew our Jasmine Dragon Pearls:

Ideally warm the pot first with a splash of hot water. Use one teaspoon (around 2g) per cup and use freshly drawn water which is heated to around 80 degrees. You can either pour the water before it reaches boiling point or allow the water to sit for a few minutes afterwards. Allow to brew for 2-3 minutes according to taste. This tea should be drunk without milk.
