Sunglasses On! Introducing Our Colourful Summer Mini Caddies

It’s been hard to keep these little caddies a secret over the last couple of months, but now we can finally spill the beans (ahem, the leaves) and release them to the world!

We see tastes in colours – our Piccadilly Blend is a smart British blue, Strawberry Serenade is a blushing pink, Vanilla Sundae is an ice cream parlour purple, and Cucumber Mint is an avocado green. They look gorgeous on the kitchen countertop (put Petit Macaron blue next to Apple & Elderflower yellow, voilà) and they’re small enough to take on the go. In fact, we recently took a mini caddy of chai all the way to India – here it is, hanging out next to the Betwa River in Madhya Pradesh, and brewed at a roadside café. If you happen to stop at a café between Orchha and Indore, and see a Whittard caddy by the stove... Well, you’ll know why.

Creating the blends for these teas gave us the chance to experiment with new tastes – pineapple and papaya for our Garden Party Oolong, black tea and Madagascan vanilla for our Vanilla Sundae, and an amazing blend of black tea, green tea, caramel and coconut for our Petit Macaron. Here we are testing different blending recipes – we tried out hundreds of different versions, adjusting the combinations of leaves, fruits, flowers and flavours to get each taste just right.

One of the things we love about loose leaf tea is how versatile it is. A single teaspoon is enough for a cup and the high quality leaves can be re-infused, so a little mini caddy will keep you going for a while. The teas are also ideal for summer iced teas and cold brews, and we’ve recently been trialling some seriously delicious tea recipes – after-work drinks inspired Earl Grey and Cucumber Mint G&Ts, and for our Red Velvet infusion makes an incredible buttercream icing. Smoky Lapsang Souchong is a surprisingly good ingredient with salmon, and our Baked Apple makes the best tea loaf we’ve ever tasted.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be introducing you to our top recipes, and you can also pick up a tea recipe leaflet in store. Got your own ideas for gourmet tea creations? Share them on social!
