Notes of spice and chocolate...

The plantations peppered around the Guatemalan city of Antigua produce some of the best coffee the country has to offer. Cultivated at high altitude in the mineral-rich soil of a land smouldering with volcanoes, this particular single origin Guatemalan coffee grows slowly under the shade of the forest, resulting in an exceptionally layered taste profile.
With a wonderfully sweet and honeyed character, intensified by notes of spice and chocolate and a bright white grape acidity, Guatemala Antigua Coffee is one of our experts’ favourite brews – irresistibly intriguing and unashamedly complex, it’s something of a conversation starter…

Jesuit missionaries first introduced coffee to Guatemala in 1750, and the prime reason for Guatemala’s coffee success is its geography: cultivated under shade at a range of altitudes from 1,600ft – 16,000ft, the plantations produce beautiful, complex Arabica beans. Today coffee is Guatemala’s primary export, with about 25% of the country’s population making their living from the coffee trade. With an extraordinary depth of flavour, ranging from the fruity and sweet to deeper notes of spiced cocoa, these are among the most popular coffees in our range…

* * - - - Not as good as last time by Alice on 14th October 2015

Having tasted this coffee before and really enjoyed it, I was disappointed this time. Heavy roasting (even if it says it's medium) meant it tasted more burnt than anything and the nuances from the bean were masked. What a shame!

One of my favourite coffees. I especially like it in beans to put in my expresso machine.

I bought this coffee in Newcastle when on a weekend break. Out of all the wonderful coffees I chose this In a 227g/8ox bag how lucky was I (it's really lovely) it has a great taste a bit expensive but if you want something really good this is the one nice and strong with a different taste everyone loves it. Now the bad points I've got to buy some more I've run out (I must keep my mouth shut) never mind.

* * * * * A gorgeous cup by James Lewis on 29th April 2013

I got a batch of 3 coffees from whittards to sample. This one, cafe francaise and the Salvador. Its this I keep coming back to though. A wonderfully rich smooth hit with just the right acidity as it connects with your tongue, leaving (just as the description states) a honeyed chocolate afterglow. Mmmmmm. Perfect any time of the day.
