Full Description
First found in Ethiopia in the 1930s, the Geisha variety has slowly made its way through trade to Colombia. In 2005 it was priced at auction in Panama for $20 a pound. A record high at the time. The Geisha variety grows particularly well at high altitudes, perfect for the mountains of Gigante and is known for its extremely high cup quality. Juan Cubillos owns Finca La Florida in Gigante, where the soil, altitude and processing techniques create a delicious Geisha coffee.
The story behind the mountains of Gigante, where this delicious coffee is produced, is that a half-god queen named Mirthayu fell in love with a giant called Matambo. Then one day, the giant was attacked by a rival tribe, and when he was killed, he fell and created the mountains of Gigante. In her grief, Mirthayu joined her lover in death, and they are now eternally there as enchanted rocks, visible from the main highway in Huila. A beautiful story to go with a truly stunning coffee.
