A note from Whittard

“I’m really into my light roasts, so I usually go for Kenya Peaberry or Jamaica Blue Mountain. One’s bright and citrusy, the other’s smooth and herby.”

- Leonie, Portobello Road Store Manager

Ever since our founder Walter Whittard weighed out tea leaves behind his high mahogany counter, we’ve been experimenting with our own inventive blends. The Chinese were the first to try blending tea leaves with fruits and flowers and it takes time, skill and imagination to master the art. It’s all about creating the perfect balance of flavours: we blind taste at least 20 different variations before settling on the perfect recipe. Just as some musicians have perfect pitch, an expert tea blender needs to have some pretty perceptive tastebuds…

* * * * * I like this tea, another! by Katheryn on 2nd March 2014

As someone who is generally quite picky about tea (I have picky tastebuds) I have to say that I really like this tea, it's not to sweet and not too overpowering with the rose, and tastes good both on its own and with milk, so in conclusion, I like this tea, another! xD

* * * * * Lovely! by Pat R on 19th July 2013

Really love this tea and have been drinking a lot of it during the current hot weather. Even my husband has been converted and has made it a firm favourite. Don't make too strong as its subtlety is what makes it so enjoyable.

* * * - - Sweet, not floral by Melissa D on 31st March 2012

Compared to many rose teas this one lacks the full strength of black tea with purely rose petals added; it's much more fruity than it is rosy, and neither flavour wins out over the other, but it does make for a lovely sweetened cup of tea.

* * - - - Disappointing if you don't like fruit teas by CH on 13th December 2011

I have purchased other brands of rose tea in the past which are comprised of only black tea, rose petals and rose oil which gives a lovely delicate floral flavour. This tea however has flavouring added (sun-ripened fruits) which makes it taste like a fruit tea rather than a floral tea so perhaps would be better listed as a fruit tea. I don't buy fruit teas as I don't like them but this one slipped by me as I was expecting just rose.
