Afternoon Tea is a Whittard classic and one of the Company's original blends. It is the tea to drink for that quintessentially English ritual, afternoon tea.

To make this Afternoon Tea, a delightfully aromatic black leaf tea from China is blended with a traditional jasmine green tea. Bergamot flavour is then added to give it its gentle perfumed flavour. Gold winner of The Great Taste Awards in 2012, the judges described it as having "Good quality leaves delivering rich, warm eucalyptus notes."

Whittard's Afternoon Tea is just what it says - the perfect tea for the afternoon. Serve it with dainty sandwiches and cakes to recreate that great British tradition, or simply on its own or with biscuits to enjoy along with a chat with friends. It is great drunk without milk, although you can brew a little stronger and add milk if you wish.

Brew the perfect cup

Measure ½ teaspoon of tea into the silver plated infuser for one cup or add 3-4 teaspoons of tea to a 6 cup pot. Pour freshly drawn boiling water and leave to brew for 3-4 minutes. Pour through a strainer. Add milk or lemon.

A note from Whittard

“I always grind my own coffee, so I tend to go for the largest, glossiest beans – mainly for the look. The giant Guatemala Elephant beans are my favourite, and I love a chocolatey roast…”

- Victoria, Manchester Market Street Store Manager

Ever since our founder Walter Whittard weighed out tea leaves behind his high mahogany counter, we’ve been experimenting with our own inventive blends. The Chinese were the first to try blending tea leaves with fruits and flowers and it takes time, skill and imagination to master the art. It’s all about creating the perfect balance of flavours: we blind taste at least 20 different variations before settling on the perfect recipe. Just as some musicians have perfect pitch, an expert tea blender needs to have some pretty perceptive tastebuds…
