Additional Information

  • Description
Wham! When you need a tea that really packs a punch, Masala Chai has it in spades. We’ve based our blend on the traditional drink served by chaiwalas on the streets of India: spicy and earthy with a ginger and cinnamon kick, it’s the Bengal tiger of teas. With its blend of black tea with whole cardamom seeds and pods, dried ginger, cinnamon and clove buds, our Masala Chai is a cut above your average coffee shop cuppa. Try it the traditional way, boiled in milk and sweetened with a little sugar.
  • Ingredients

52% Black Tea, 48% Spices (Ginger, Cinnamon, Cardamom seed and pod, Black Pepper, Clove Buds)

    Suitable for vegetarians and vegans

    Gluten free.

I first disovered Masala tea many years ago and that was predominantly in 'bags'. Then tried other blends before trying Masala again last Autumn and the first time I tried Whittard's blend.

This one tastes, smells and looks wonderful, with nice big leaves and whole spices. It is nice and warming with a delightful spiciness. I enjoy it any time of day but it is especially nice when you've been outside in the cold and need warming-up. It also manages to penetrate the senses when full of a cold!

    Yum!

Ever since our founder Walter Whittard weighed out tea leaves behind his high mahogany counter, we've been experimenting with our own inventive blends. Today you'll find extraordinary creativity in our collection, from unique twists on classics like English Breakfast to more inventive blends laden with fruit and flowers.

Black Tea

Fully oxidised for a rich, robust flavour, black tea is the most popular type of tea in the western world – and for good reason. Its full body and depth of flavour make many black teas ideal for drinking with a splash of milk, while more delicate varieties like Darjeeling express a huge range of complex characteristics.
