All Stores DailyIt was during China's Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) that tea artisans first experimented with buds and blossoms, imbuing the leaves with essential oils. Roses were among the very first flowers they tried and osmanthus, orchids and jasmine also proved popular.
We've recreated the taste of a classic 'Meigui Gongfu' rose tea by using a Chinese black tea for the base, imbued with subtle floral flavours and scattered with rose petals. The tea might be authentically Chinese, but those wonderfully aromatic notes of rose are forever England. Deliciously delicate and seductively sweet, a single sip brings to mind rolling hills, church bells and country gardens: perfect for a picnic on the village green.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I absolutely love this tea!! It has a nice floral flavour that is enriched by earthy undertones from the black tea. It's sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. My favourite part is the aroma; the rose scent is delightful, and transports your senses straight to an English rose garden! Definitely one of my favourite blends from Whittard. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s just so refreshing and subtle. My favorite tea! |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fragrant and not unpleasant but I prefer more black tea alternatives like a rich rose pouching. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great smooth black tea, with a gorgeous rose scent and taste. Perfect balance |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A lovely comforting brew. I tend not like rose flavour, but my partner had this and I was tempted to try it. I use less than the recommended amount as I find it quite overpowering otherwise. I've been converted to rose! |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() lovely smell, great soft taste. usually everybody tends to love it (me, my family, guests...) |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Smells like Turkish Delights. I've yet to try it, as i'm saving it for a special occasion. It's both a strong & a delicate scent. I was impressed to find two whole rosebuds on my mini caddy version. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A delicious black tea that awakens your senses and releases a delicious scent of roses! |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have tasted English Rose from other 2 major tea companies and I have to admit that Whittard's English Rose is my favorite. Please buy the loose tea as it retains the flavor longer for at least twice more teapots. Mum and dad also liking this tea and they bought quite a lot to take it back home. I bought it on February 2017 and then again on March 2017 and was surprised on the price hike up ! |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Bought this on a vacation i London and I just love it. I live in Sweden and am a bit sad that I didn't buy more. Need more of it!!! |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I love how the deep notes of the black tea match the sofisticated nostalgic flavor of the rose petals; each sip is a plung in a romantic old fashioned garden. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I became addicted to this tea. it has a deep taste and I love drinking it with taraxacum honey. it was a gift from my frirnd in London. unfortunately we don't have it in Poland |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was given to smell the loose Rose tea sample at the Regent St shop, for conveniences I bought the teabags instead. Huge disappointment when I try it out at home.. It didn't give any taste of tea or rose fragrance!! I will never buy this tea again |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I tried this tea for the first time this summer. I now crave it! I am on my last package of it and will be entirely bereft when it is gone. There is no cost effective way to get it in Canada. Guess I'd better book my next trip overseas! |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This tea has a great fragrance and taste. I really enjoy drinking it on warm summer nights. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I can barely taste the tea leaves and the rose petals over the flavouring. And it leaves a bad after taste in my mouth. Bit too overwhelming for me. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I used to love this tea but now it is really sweet and doesn't taste of rose or black tea - just of flavouring. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This used to be my favourite tea of all in Whittard and recently reordered a refill and discovered it has changed completely, but for me in a bad way, as I can't stand the fragance, it is too strong and it makes me feel sick. However, some friends tried it at home and they said they liked it, so it might not have been a bad idea for Whittard after all to change it, they might have new fans. For me, it is a disappointment not to have the old recipe available anymore and I would like to have known in advance to avoid the surprise. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Purchased this on a whim in the shop in Glasgow after being invited to smell it. The perfect fragrance and taste of Turkish Delight. The best Rose Tea I have ever had. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I drank English Rose tea daily for over 10 years, it was my absolute favorite. I purchased it in large quantities 2-3x a year to save shipping. However, they recently dramatically changed this tea. I called them and they acknowledged this. No more passion fruit flavors. It is now so heavily rose-laden as to be like drinking perfume. The shipping is expensive enough not to justify sending it back from USA, but I find it undrinkable. I wish they had notified that they were changing it, or at least change the name, before I purchased. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I am very fortunate to have access to this tea in Canada. I absolutely LOVE it!! It has become my everyday morning tea. If you are looking for a full flavour black tea with a hint to flowery sent and flavour, this is it. It awakens all your senses! |
The Chinese invented paper, gunpowder and the compass. But their finest innovation has to be tea, reputedly first discovered by the emperor Shen Nong in 2737 BCE. Originally prepared as a medicinal brew, tea became a drink in its own right during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE), and today China produces thousands of different varieties ranging from black, green and white tea to oolong, puerh and yellow tea. If you’re looking for a bit of teatime reading take a look at Lu Yu’s ‘Tea Classic’: first written in 780 CE, it covers everything from cultivation methods to tea etiquette…
We've chosen the number 12 for our English Rose, the classic number of roses in a Valentine's bouquet.

Flavoured Black Tea
In the words of the novelist Henry James: 'There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.' Our signature tea for after three is a beautiful balance of black and green tea with flavours of bergamot and a sweet scattering of petals. Now who's for a cucumber sandwich?

White Tea with Flavouring
We like to think that Walter Whittard dreamt up this blend while taking a stroll in Chelsea Physic Garden one summer evening The delicate taste of our signature White Peony tea is perfectly matched with floral fruit flavours, while whole pink rosebuds make for quite the afternoon tea showpiece. Super with scones and strawberry jam.
