A land of high rainfall, Assam in north-east India is endowed with lush greenery and is the largest cohesive tea growing area in the world.

The name of Golden Assam Tea refers to the abundance of golden tips in the leaf, an indication of its exceptional quality. It is a full-bodied tea with distinctive Assam characteristics, satisfyingly malty with a long-lasting molasses aftertaste.

Drink it throughout the day as a hearty and refreshing pick me up.

Whittard’s superior tea pyramids are made from sheer bio-degradable mesh. This allows the whole leaves to infuse perfectly in your cup, offering the refined taste you get from tea leaves but with all the convenience of a teabag.

Brew the perfect cup

For the perfect cup of Golden Assam Tea, use one pyramid per cup and always use freshly drawn and boiled water. Allow to brew for 3-4 minutes or according to taste. Can be drunk with or without milk.

A note from Whittard

“At the moment I’m really into white tea blends, like Chelsea Garden and White Chocolate Tea. Both are amazing with anything creamy. Fondant fancies add a touch of kitsch!”

India

The story goes that coffee was brought to India by the 17th century pilgrim Baba Budan, who smuggled seven coffee seeds out of Yemen on his return from Mecca. He planted the seeds in the lush southern state of Karnataka, the home of our much-loved Monsoon Malabar. Indian coffee tends to be sweet, creamy and low in acidity, maturing slowly in the shade to increase the natural sugars of the bean, and cultivated alongside crops of cardamom, cloves and cinnamon for a light hint of spice.

A lovely cup of Assam tea is brewed with these mesh bags, and large leaves. I leave for approx 4 mins and add whole milk to drink as my evening cuppa, a delight.

Looks good in the teabag and tastes even better. Ranks highly in my list of favourite teas. I have it brewed for 4 minutes and add soya milk to give a rich tasting and orange/brown looking brew. Very satisfying.

Without question the finest and best tasting tea on the market, helped along by the mesh bags to fully deliver the infusion . 4 minutes brew , 1 sugar and easy on the milk should brew a nice dark straw colour .
