An intensely aromatic blend inspired by masala chai.

Gather around the fire for strange tales from the spice markets of ancient trade routes - this classic Whittard blend balances a smooth, full-flavoured black tea with aromatic cloves, zesty orange peel, sweet Madagascan vanilla and a scattering of yellow safflower petals. We love it on dark winter evenings, and it's also rather good served iced with plenty of fruit on hot summer days.

A note from Whittard

“I don’t respond that well to caffeine, so I tend to go to our fruit and herbal infusions. Baked Apple is one of my favourites, and rooibos is lovely as a caffeine-free breakfast tea.”

Blended

Ever since our founder Walter Whittard weighed out tea leaves behind his high mahogany counter, we’ve been experimenting with our own inventive blends. The Chinese were the first to try blending tea leaves with fruits and flowers and it takes time, skill and imagination to master the art. It’s all about creating the perfect balance of flavours: we blind taste at least 20 different variations before settling on the perfect recipe. Just as some musicians have perfect pitch, an expert tea blender needs to have some pretty perceptive tastebuds…

* - - - - Suddenly Too Expensive by Phillippa on 7th February 2016

I agree with what others have written here; I adore this tea and been drinking it in abundance for years and years. Unfortunately recently Whittards changed the packaging to boxes of 25 individually wrapped tea bags, and the price per bag has therefore sky rocketed. It makes it far too expensive to buy in the same quantity, so I'll have to go back to regular English Breakfast from my local supermarket.

* - - - - Spice Imperial tea bags now too expensive ! by Caroline Hampson on 5th February 2016

I have been buying these tea bags for years and they are my absolute favourite. However I was extremely disappointed to find that you can now only buy these in packs of 25 making them extremely expensive so sadly unless the packs of 50 are re-introduced I will no longer buy these and will have to seek an alternative brand.

I love this loose leaf tea. Tastes wonderful and is so warming on a cold day. Smells lovely too. I am just about to buy my fourth bag of it :)

my favourite tea. So disappointed that the price per bag has rocketed and no unwrapped bags available. Probably won't buy again.

Last time I ordered these (about 3 months ago) they cost £4.75 for 50 bags which makes the current price a 110% increase. The new bags also appear to be slightly smaller than the previous version. They taste good but I feel somewhat exploited. I've written to Whittard asking about the price increase and just waiting to hear back. I'm disappointed because I won't be able to justify paying this price for these tea bags.
