Gather around the fire for strange tales from the spice markets of ancient trade routes – this classic Whittard blend balances a smooth, full-flavoured black tea with exotic notes of cloves, vanilla and citrus. The mulled wine of our tea collection, it’s Christmas in a cup – then again, it’s also rather good served iced with plenty of fruit on hot summer days. For now, we’d suggest it goes rather well with a plate of mince pies…

  • Tastes like

    Cloves, citrus and spice

  • When to drink

    Around the fire on a winter evening

Brew the perfect cup

Ideally warm the pot first with a splash of hot water. Use one teabag per cup and always use freshly drawn and boiled water. Allow to brew for 3-5 minutes according to taste. Can be drunk with or without milk.

A note from Whittard

“I’m a big fan of our Mango & Bergamot – the coloured petals look lovely against the green tea leaves, and I like to store it in glass sweetshop jars on my kitchen shelf.”

- Marie Laure, Covent Garden Store Manager

Ever since our founder Walter Whittard weighed out tea leaves behind his high mahogany counter, we’ve been experimenting with our own inventive blends. The Chinese were the first to try blending tea leaves with fruits and flowers and it takes time, skill and imagination to master the art. It’s all about creating the perfect balance of flavours: we blind taste at least 20 different variations before settling on the perfect recipe. Just as some musicians have perfect pitch, an expert tea blender needs to have some pretty perceptive tastebuds…

* * * * * Lovely flavour by Susan Hill de Vries on 12th January 2015

I have been almost bulk buying this tea from Store around Christmas to last me. Now I can order on line all year round is great, as this has become my favourite everyday tea. Normal tea tastes bland after Spice Imperial! The individual tea bags mean that I can take them with me on weekends away etc. I find it full of flavour, comforting and it reminds me of Christmas all year round (which I love!)

This is really delicious tea especially with a piece of homemade ginger cake, really brings out the flavours

I love this tea, I've been drinking it ever since I discovered it one Christmas. I drink it every day but it's specially comforting when you're not feeling at your best - it's my "migraine" restorative. I stock up every 3 months or so and carry a few bags whenever I go away, so I'm pleased to see that individually-wrapped packets are now available. Very useful!

I adore this tea. I bought it once at Christmas and have been drinking it ever since. I buy in bulk when all the Christmas stuff gets reduced (it still tastes good when it's nearly out of date but it's best when the packet is really fresh and the smell is amazing!) I am so pleased it's available all year around!

It has been a long cold winter and not much sign of spring either. This has been our staple tea since last autumn - lovely spicy and comforting.

This tea is exactly the same as 'Christmas tea.' Having bought some at Christmas I found I was drinking it all the time - I'm glad Whittard's stock it all year round! A lovely, comforting cup of tea which I couldn't be without. This is my 'ordinary' cup of tea now x
