This classic combination is one of the earliest flavoured teas. Long, sticky vanilla pods, among the world's most expensive spices, are harvested by hand for their heavy sweetness. The flamboyance of this spice contrasts perfectly with the clean taste of black tea to produce a deliciously fresh and fragrant drink.

A note from Whittard

“I love staging themed afternoon teas, and at the moment I’m trying out some of our more bizarre blends, like Bohemian Raspberry and Blueberry Rooibos!”

- Cianne, Southampton Marlands Store Manager

Ever since our founder Walter Whittard weighed out tea leaves behind his high mahogany counter, we’ve been experimenting with our own inventive blends. The Chinese were the first to try blending tea leaves with fruits and flowers and it takes time, skill and imagination to master the art. It’s all about creating the perfect balance of flavours: we blind taste at least 20 different variations before settling on the perfect recipe. Just as some musicians have perfect pitch, an expert tea blender needs to have some pretty perceptive tastebuds…

Another fine tasting tea from Whittard of Chelsea. I drink this tea mainly in the afternoon with my lunch.

This is a very good tea blend. It is slightly low in vanilla flavour compared with similar teas available on Madagascar (which I visited earlier this year) but it is excellent value and I can add some extra vanilla if I want to. A very good combination of flavour and value for money.

This tea was the first of Whittard's loose teas I had tried, and one of the first blends I tried that was not English Breakfast. It is a lovely tea, with a light vanilla flavour that is not at all overpowering - a great first tea for those looking to try other blends. It's wonderful with a spoonful of sugar, and just a dash of milk.

* * * * * Vanilla, an ice cream taste in a tea! by Uranya on 23rd February 2012

This tea remembers me the taste of a sweet, soft, vanilla ice cream. I have used this tea to do up to 5 infusions. Normally the time of the next infusion lasts a bit more then the previous one. Drink it gently!

This makes for a perfect cuppa. The packet suggests not using milk but personally I love this tea with a dash of milk and a teaspoon of acacia honey. Perfect every time!

This is a lovely gentle vanilla flavoured black tea - it is my favourite 'wake-up' cuppa.
