An intensely aromatic blend inspired by masala chai.

Gather around the fire for strange tales from the spice markets of ancient trade routes – this classic Whittard blend balances a smooth, full-flavoured black tea with aromatic cloves, zesty orange peel, sweet Madagascan vanilla and a scattering of yellow safflower petals. We love it on dark winter evenings, and it's also rather good served iced with plenty of fruit on hot summer days.

Ever since our founder Walter Whittard weighed out tea leaves behind his high mahogany counter, we’ve been experimenting with our own inventive blends. The Chinese were the first to try blending tea leaves with fruits and flowers and it takes time, skill and imagination to master the art. It’s all about creating the perfect balance of flavours: we blind taste at least 20 different variations before settling on the perfect recipe. Just as some musicians have perfect pitch, an expert tea blender needs to have some pretty perceptive tastebuds…

Spice Imperial

Founded by a royal decree from Queen Elizabeth I in 1600, The East India Company was the largest importer of tea and spice during the British Imperial period. We've numbered this tea 16 to mark over four centuries of British tea drinking.

my favourite tea. So disappointed that the price per bag has rocketed and no unwrapped bags available. Probably won't buy again.

Last time I ordered these (about 3 months ago) they cost £4.75 for 50 bags which makes the current price a 110% increase. The new bags also appear to be slightly smaller than the previous version. They taste good but I feel somewhat exploited. I've written to Whittard asking about the price increase and just waiting to hear back. I'm disappointed because I won't be able to justify paying this price for these tea bags.
