The chocolate taste is deliciously precise and fresh, rather than creamy or thick. With hints of cinnamon, chicory, ginger, cloves and peppercorns - just what you need to spice it up! Chocolate kernels do not contain caffeine, though they do have a lovely clean chocolate taste.

A note from Whittard

“I don’t respond that well to caffeine, so I tend to go to our fruit and herbal infusions. Baked Apple is one of my favourites, and rooibos is lovely as a caffeine-free breakfast tea.”

- Octavia, Cambridge Store Manager

Ever since our founder Walter Whittard weighed out tea leaves behind his high mahogany counter, we’ve been experimenting with our own inventive blends. The Chinese were the first to try blending tea leaves with fruits and flowers and it takes time, skill and imagination to master the art. It’s all about creating the perfect balance of flavours: we blind taste at least 20 different variations before settling on the perfect recipe. Just as some musicians have perfect pitch, an expert tea blender needs to have some pretty perceptive tastebuds…

I definitely love this one...since I cannot have coffeine or tea, this one seems a blend between chai tea and chocolate and tastes awesome... My favourite, hands down!

a perfect tea for my daughter who cannot have caffeine or sugar - and it's very hard to find a delicious hot drink which does not include either of those in it so five stars to you!

* * * * * Chocolate Chai, give it a try! by AJ on 8th December 2014

I bought this quite some time ago, tried it but like other buyers thought it was a bit lacking. However I loved the aroma, so gave it another try recently, but made it a lot stronger and brewed it for much longer. Result was WOW! I add a splash of almond milk to make it a bit more satisfying and brings out the chocolate flavour. I would recommend experimenting with infusions, they can be surprising!

* * * * * Best spice tea i ever had by Jessie on 12th December 2013

It's the kind of tea you either Like it or Hate it. Didn't know I would fall in love with the taste. At first I was skeptical about the cardamon and cloves taste, but after tasting it once and I can't believe I am all over it. The combination of the spices has such a warm and calming effect especially before the bedtime. Love it with a slice of lemon!

I could detect the chocolate taste but for me chocolate has to be the 70% + variety so this tea wasn't to my taste, one cup and I'm afraid I threw the rest away.

My hubby bought this for me and I have to say it was lovely. I like chai tea anyway but the chocolate added a little cosy-ness factor that suits the cold evenings when you want something hot, not too fattening and caffeine free. We add a little sugar and steeped for nearer 8 minutes, it is chocolate chai tea heaven.

This smells gorgeous and has a lovely spiced taste. It doesn't taste like chocoalte but it smells a bit like it. Just remember one teaspoon per person- its horrbile otherwise i like it strong so about 8 mintues cant get enough, will buy more even if its pricey

* * - - - not for me by Jane on 16th July 2012

had high expectations, but to me this tea is tasteless and the texture is quite strange. After taste is not good, too. I don't feel chocolate, only some spices, though it very much smells like chocolate.

i don't normally write reviews but i absolutely love this tea! it's mellow yet deep, and being caffeine free i can sip it all day. i love the chocolatey flavour and agree with other reviewer about letting it steep for long.

* * * * * Have to have this in my cupboard by Bez on 24th March 2012

This is a delicious chai, with a full flavour and a real depth to it. Love the spices and its possible to pick out the pink pepper and cardamon. Personally, I like to leave this to steep for much much more than five minutes, then the richness of the chocolate comes through and the spicing builds. This is an all time favourit of mine and most days, I will have a pot of this on the go. A taste of chocolate, without the calouries!
