Scrumptious served with a buttery slice of gingerbread...

Malty and moreish with a smooth honey sweetness, this herbal tea is naturally caffeine free. Grown solely in the Cederberg Mountains of South Africa, the name “rooibos” or “red bush” tea might make you think of bright burning tea bushes.

In fact, the name refers to the transformation of the leaves from green to a deep russet colour during the oxidation process. Scrumptious served with a buttery slice of gingerbread.

  • Origin

    South Africa

  • Tastes like

Soft Seville orange sweetness and hints of malt

  • When to drink

    Throughout the day

Ingredients

Brew the perfect cup

Ideally warm the pot first with a splash of hot water. Use one teaspoon (around 2g) per cup and always use freshly drawn and boiled water. Allow to brew for 3-5 minutes according to taste. Can be drunk with our without milk.

A note from Whittard

“I’m a huge oolong fan – the sheer diversity of different flavours is pretty mind-boggling. My favourites are the creamy, almost buttery high grown oolongs grown in Taiwan.”

- Bethan, Specialist Tea Buyer

South Africa

Herbal rooibos is unique to the Cederberg Mountains in South Africa’s Western Cape province, home to antelopes, leopards and lizards. The Khosian tribes had had been harvesting the leaves of the Aspalathus Linearis plant long before its discovery by the Dutch colonists, who applied the same process of oxidation used to create black tea. As a result, the green, needle-like leaves were transformed to a glowing red, giving the tea its name: rooibos or ‘red bush’ tea. As a herbal plant it’s caffeine free, and the only known source of the antioxidant aspalathin.

Bought some nice tea. Received spam e-mail requesting review afterwards. Not nice. Tea was just fine though.
