English Breakfast tea became something of a national drink when word got out that Queen Victoria was a fan; Walter Whittard was quick to follow suit, creating his own distinctive blend from a selection of different tea gardens in the West Java region. A Whittard firm favourite for well over a century now, our English Breakfast tea is smooth, versatile and invigorating with a robust malty richness - particularly delicious served with a splash of milk to accompany a hearty 'full English'.

Designed for breakfast, but good enough to drink all day long
Add one teaspoon (around 2g) of loose leaf tea per cup and always use freshly drawn and boiled water. Allow to brew for 3-5 minutes according to taste. Can be enjoyed with or without milk.

English Breakfast has a really smooth and rich texture, and virtually no bitter taste. It's not particularly aromatic, but very refreshing and satisfactory.

I was given one of your presentation boxes as it was unwanted by the recipient. No interest for him but what a positive delight for me! I'd not tried this Breakfast Tea before but now I drink at least two large cups, without milk but with sugar, every morning. I was running low on it so visited this web site specially, in part thanks to information on the box. I have just received a beautifully packed hamper of teas, including more of this one. Pure Heaven in the making...and thank goodness for unwanted presents!

I am Swiss and I do not drink often tea. But this one is fine. Just drinking it with some milk. I like the smooth taste.

I First encountered Whittard's English Breakfast in bags as a jet-lagged traveler, in Belgium. Prepared for the usual hotel offering of bitter, astringent "English Breakfast" (tolerable only with equal parts milk), I was pleasantly refreshed by the distinctive rich blend. Two full pots without milk at all (sans issues) marked a grand beginning to the week. I wish they were here in the U. S. A.

This makes a lovely cup of tea, but at this price, it should! VERY hard to justify this price for a regular cuppa - it's really not that much better.
The tea gardens of Java were originally planted by the Dutch in the 1700s. However, the Camellia sinensis tea cuttings smuggled from China didn’t suit the Indonesian soil and the industry had dwindled by the 19th century. When the British discovered the Camellia assamica tea plant growing wild in West Bengal, the Dutch tried their luck with new cuttings – and it proved a hit. Tea from the region has similar strength and taste to full-bodied Assam, making it perfect for breakfast blends.
