Additional Information

  • Description

Brace yourself for a tea that’s truly indulgent. As food pairings go, we think chocolate with tea is one of the best – so we couldn’t resist combining the two flavours in a cup.

We’ve blended black tea from India and Indonesia with a (very) generous helping of cocoa nibs, creating a tea that’s full-bodied, aromatic and seriously chocolatey. It’s just the thing for a sugar-free chocolate fix – which might explain why our marketing team kept asking for extra samples…

  • Ingredients

58% Black Tea, 39% Cocoa Kernels, Flavouring

    Gluten free

Probably the 2nd best tea I have had in years( read on ). I love it ….and I'm a coffee drinker ! I was drinking it all the time. Having said all that there was a recent mix up with a consignment which had mixed rose in with it. My local branch sold me some as a 'Turkish Delight' blend and OMG its the best!! For an accident it was a good one. Whittards please consider making this mistake again..
    Dark chocolate

This tea is lovely. Really hits the spot for a chocolate fix. Chocolate flavour is enhanced with addition of splash of milk.
    Mixing my two favourite things
By BeckyP from London on 02/05/2019
Before trying this tea I would have said I prefer my tea and chocolate separate, however this tea not only smells good but tastes good too. I find brewing for 3-4 minutes is perfect enough to not leave the tea bitter but to still get the dark chocolate aromas. rnA great combination from Whittards - I will 100% buy again!
By Tea1995 from Hampshire on 12/18/2018
I thought I would really dislike this and wasn’t sure about the combination of chocolate and tea but I was really surprised that it was so nice! rnrnWill buy this product.
    Smooth and chocolaty!
By Freckleflower from Alton on 12/12/2018
I was expecting this to be quite bitter but it is far from it - Smells and tastes really chocolaty and is perfect when you just fancy something a little different, a bit like having a hot chocolate but without the calories!
By Cake from Oxford on 11/27/2018
On the same day I received this taster I came home with 7 different teas from T2Tea and none of them are as enjoyable as this Dark Chocolate blend from Whittards. Great aromas and flavours that really make this tea stand out above the rest. I’m so impressed! Next time I’m near a store I will be buying more of this! Thanks for the sample Whittards, this is how you show how great your products are!

This tea is perfect for autum and winter time! It puts a lovely subtle twist onto your typical black tea. The dark chocolate taste complements the taste of the tea without being overpowering or bitter. If you love dark chocolate or even if you don’t I would recommend this tea! x
By PolitelyHonest from Oxford on 11/04/2018
Delicious - a welcome twist on the average breakfast tea. Will certainly buy again.
By Tea Jenny from Glasgow on 10/28/2018
You can taste the dark chocolate, works well with a spot of milk.
    Dark chocolate black tea
By Teana from Folkestone on 10/27/2018
This tea tasted yummy! The combination of black tea and chocolate together is perfect. It has a wonderful chocolate aftertaste.
    Dark Choc Loose Tea
By ajax from Norwich on 10/25/2018
Was a very interesting kind of tea. Definitely tasted chocolatey. I love tea and chocolate but I'm not sure if I like the combination as I like tea when I'm thirsty and hot chocolate as an indulgence before bed.
    Dark Chocolate
    on 02/16/2018
As a huge black tea fan, this tea is my second favourite to English Breakfast, but this one can be drank without milk which is a bonus when I want a break from milk, and has such a lovely creamy chocolatey flavour to it.
Very delicious! and virtually calorie free yay!
    Smells delicious
By Teresa from Madrid (Spain) on 05/19/2019
It smells chocolate like heaven! The taste is less noticeable but it's also very good. I love black tea and chocolate so it's the perfect match!
    Dark chocolate black tea
By Ioanna from London on 12/16/2018
Great smell of chocolate! Taste of chocolate could be a bit stronger (which is why 4 rather than 5 stars).
    Aromatic milky chocolate tea
By TeaTree from Cardiff on 12/08/2018
This tea really smells very chocolatey and is very aromatic when drinking. Unlike other very aromatic teas it actually tastes richly of chocolate, more like milk than dark and tastes very milky even without milk. For chocolate or hot chocolate lovers highly recommend, not for those who want a classic black tea flavour. I would recommend to not brew too long it is perfect in a couple minutes, brew too long and it will be too bitter to drink I found. Overall very tasty comforting tea.
    Interesting mix
By AliceR from WEMBLEY on 11/26/2018
First time I dared a mix between tea and chocolate. I was surprised it was so good. No need to sweeten it.
    Very woody
By Caro from London on 11/14/2018
Nice earthy tea with a subtle note of chocolate. I usually don't drink my black tea with milk and sugar but for this one, it was better since it has quite a wooded taste.
By Karen from Leicester on 11/13/2018
An interesting start to alternative teas. The brewing tea smelled distinctively of chocolate, but the taste did not come through so strongly.
Cozy & Nice Light Hot Cocoa Replacement
By Baylee J. from Oxford on 11/06/2018
A great tea to cosy up on the couch with after a long day. I’m not always a cream and sugar fan when it comes to tea but I think this tea is great with it. It’s a great light option if you’re watching your sugar or calories but I must admit it leaves wishes for some luxury hot cocoa. : )
    Perfect afternoon tea indulgence.
By Teacrayon from Leicestershire on 11/06/2018
Has an instant dark chocolate flavour, but not too sweet and a distant tea flavour coming through after. Smells delicious too.
    Beautifully bitter
By JoeTRG from Glasgow on 11/02/2018
Unfortunately, I have a sweet tooth, but even still this tea went incredibly well with pudding, would definitely recommend if you enjoy a bitter bite in a drink with your dessert or even a cigar/cigarette.
Very interesting with a definite chocolate taste
By Steve from Lincolnshire on 10/28/2018
A very pleasant tea that could be drunk at any time. An interesting alternative to the typical black teas.
    Dark Chocolate Tea
By Kathy G from Norwich on 10/28/2018
Lovely chocolate smell and tastes good too. This tea doesn’t leave an after taste like some others. Very pleasant.
    Lovely, warm chocolate taste
By Mishey from London on 10/28/2018
Me and a friend tried it together and she wasn't sure about the taste. We let it brew for a while longer and the taste was chocolatey and very nice. I love the coconut truffle and wondered about mixing them.
By Marico from Winchester on 10/26/2018
Good quality tea with a strong chocolate flavour.
    Dark chocolate tea
By LinseyMc from Glasgow on 11/14/2018
When you first open the packet the smell of the tea is intoxicating and you can really smell the chocolate however on brewing the tea becomes quite bitter and not very pleasant as some of the other teas. That being said I would try this perhaps with a little cream or milk which may soften the taste a little.
    Taste really strong
By Catherine from Oxford, England on 11/03/2018
Strong to smell and taste. Chocolate is the dominant flavour here without too much of a tea flavour.
    Is more about the smell
By Jess from Glasgow on 10/30/2018
The taste is still of black tea, but smells a lot like chocolate
    Not what I expected
By HGV from Leicester on 10/23/2018
Smelled delicious and very chocolatey, but tasted rather bitter. The description suggested sweetness, but this was not the case. Perhaps it would have worked better as a green tea, to lose the bitterness.
    Indelicate Flavour
By Polar Bear from Winchester on 11/05/2018
Chocolate flavour was slightly overpowering, and a little too sweet. Overall an interesting tea that could use some fine tuning.
    Not for me
By Jo from Leicester on 10/29/2018
Definitely not for me! It tasted a little like I had added hot chocolate to my tea!
    Nice smell disappointing taste
By Christine from Reading on 10/22/2018
This tea had a really nice smell. I didn't like the taste of the tea. I would not buy this tea.
    Strong Tea not chocolate
By Tukki from Cardiff on 10/18/2018
Not a fan of this tea, Doesn't taste like chocolate just taste like strong green tea so not my liking
    Not my cuppa!
By Daz from Norwich, UK on 10/14/2018
Dark strong tea and too chocolatey for my taste.rnFor me it needed something to break up the chocolate taste, like toasted popcorn and coconut. If you want a strong chocolate flavour, then this is the one for you.
    Not for me
By TeaLover from Oxford on 11/04/2018
Not my cup of tea. Don't really like the taste of chocolate inside my tea.

Black Tea

Fully oxidised for a rich, robust flavour, black tea is the most popular type of tea in the western world – and for good reason. Its full body and depth of flavour make many black teas ideal for drinking with a splash of milk, while more delicate varieties like Darjeeling express a huge range of complex characteristics.
