Jasmine Dragon Pearls

Product Details

Beautiful hand-rolled pearls of scented green tea.

A speciality of Fujian Province in China, our artisan Jasmine Dragon Pearls have been crafted with extraordinary skill, rolling the youngest green tea leaves by hand and layering them up to six times with fresh jasmine blossoms, ready to absorb their fragrant oil as the buds begin to open at dusk.

The tea takes its name from the pearls traditionally seen under the feet of stone dragons standing guard at the entrances to imperial palaces and office buildings. The pearly leaves unfurl like blossoms in the infusion, creating a beautifully light and aromatic brew which releases layers of flavour with each steeping. You'll find it's the perfect tea for enjoying over the course of the day, and we tend to brew a fresh pot as an after-dinner palate-cleanser.

The Great Taste Awards have been described as the Oscars of the food world—so you can imagine we were pretty chuffed when our Jasmine Dragon Pearls won a gold star at this year’s awards. The judges called it “A clean liquor with good peachy and stone fruit character, and a delightful sweetness.”

I was never a tea drinker until I was introduced to this amazing product. Just 3 pearls created a lovely tea and I was able to use again for a second cup, so excellent value (apparantly they might even stretch further but I'm not that much of a cheapskate) So I'm now a proud convert and loving it!

The Chinese invented paper, gunpowder and the compass. But their finest innovation has to be tea, reputedly first discovered by the emperor Shen Nong in 2737 BCE. Originally prepared as a medicinal brew, tea became a drink in its own right during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE), and today China produces thousands of different varieties ranging from black, green and white tea to oolong, puerh and yellow tea. If you’re looking for a bit of teatime reading take a look at Lu Yu’s ‘Tea Classic’: first written in 780 CE, it covers everything from cultivation methods to tea etiquette…

    Green Tea with Flavouring

Inspired by the Japanese sakura cherry blossom festival of early spring, we've layered a base of fresh Sencha green tea with flavours of sweet, ripe cherries and a sprinkling of pretty pink petals. One sip, and you're sitting under a candyfloss cloud of luxuriant blossom. Bright, sweet and sublimely springlike, we love it as a crystal-clear cold infusion.

    Scented Green Tea

Chinese tea masters first started experimenting with jasmine scented blends as early as the 5th century, a tea originally reserved for the refined tastes of the Imperial Court. Selected at dusk for the headiest scent, the summer's sweetest jasmine blossoms are scattered across a verdant base of green tea.
