Meeting the winners of our Design a Tea Caddy competition!

Last week, we met with the winners of our 2014 Design a Tea Caddy competition in our Regent Street store. We invited the winners to spend the morning with us, see their tea caddy designs in print and on display in store, followed by a Tea Tasting Experience at our Regent Street St James Tea Bar.

How it worked:
In 2014, we ran a competition to find artwork for our three limited edition tea caddies. Artists, illustrators and designers of any level were invited to submit their creations. We were overwhelmed with the responses, there were so many beautiful designs, but in the end we whittled it down to our 9 favourites. These 9 were put to the vote on Facebook, where our fans chose their top 3 - we turned those top 3 designs into real caddies containing some of our favourite teas.

The winning designs:
Elle Holian created a tiger illustration on a pale green background, inspired by 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea'. Her design was selected by our Facebook fans as the winning design! We filled the beautiful caddy with one of our customers' favourites, Earl Grey Tea.

Two runners-up were also selected by our fans. So Rhian Beynon's tropical print caddy was filled with Afternoon Tea and Iona Reid-Dalglish's elephant caddy was filled with English Breakfast.

Meeting the winners:
On Friday 13th March, we invited the winning designers to our Regent Street store to see their finished caddies in the flesh. Unfortunately, Elle couldn't make it as she was working on design in India, however we welcomed Rhian and Iona to meet us in London. We introduced the runners-up to the Whittard of Chelsea brand, the staff in our Regent Street store and showed them their caddies, proudly on display. Following this, we treated the runners-up to a Tea Experience in our Regent Street St. James Tea Bar. Our store manager, Matt, explained each tea as the winners drank - accompied by a sweet treat, perfectly matched to each tea.

It was wonderful to meet with the designers behind our limited edition caddies and find out more about their designs and inspiration. We're going to feature each designer and their interesting backgrounds in blog posts to follow. Please do check back to find out the stories behind our limited edition designer caddies
